Let's Play

Hey kids!

I was inspired today. At this point I can't tell you how, because it'll ruin the game, but if you're good I'll tell you later.

As kids, my sister and I were pretty lazy. Heck, we're still pretty lazy, but that's beside the point. Anyway. During the long arduous summer months we could often be seen doing nothing at all, and being very good at it. Our options for fun were moderately limited, but in order to keep things hopping we would rent movies at our local Smiley Video (I imagine we still have late fees there, cuz he'd never make us pay them to rent more). But due to our laziness and my brother's eagerness, we'd somehow convince him on a regular basis, to head to Smiley's and rent us something (usually using his own money).

The problem was this, though we could usually get him to go, he wasn't overly creative and tended to stick to what he knew when it came to movie selections. On top of that, Smiley wasn't that strong an entrepreneur, so his movie stock varied little.

In short, when we sent little brother, he always came back with the same movies. We were OK with that though, because when he strayed from the old faithfuls we were usually in for some major brain leakage (why didn't we just buy the movies and save money you ask? well, pops didn't like buying movies... so we got to keep Smiley in business).

So here's what I've done... below you will find some movie quotes from the movies that we watched over and over and over again, and some that are just funny. Your job is to tell me what movie they're from, and bonus points for naming the character/actor. But don't read the comments until you've given it a try! Some movies are quoted from twice, because they're so dang funny.

I may have over done it a tad.

Enjoy.

***********************
Movie A

-
You just shook your head... doesn't that make you happy?
- My brains, his steel, and your strength against sixty men, and you think a little head jiggle is supposed to make me happy?

Tee hee! Didn't get it? Here's another one...

- Sonny, true love is the greatest thing in the world except for a nice MLT - mutton, lettuce and tomato sandwich, where the mutton is nice and lean and the tomato is ripe... they're so perky, I love that.

Well if you didn't get it there, here's one more...

- Tyrone, you know how much I love watching you work. But I've got my country's 500th anniversary to plan, my wedding to arrange, my wife to murder, and Guilder to frame for it. I'm swamped.

***********************
Movie B

- Say, any of you boys smithies? Or, if not smithies per se, were you otherwise trained in the metallurgic arts before straitened circumstances forced you into a life of aimless wanderin'?

And one more...

- Pete, the personal rancor reflected in that remark I don't intend to dignify with comment. But I would like to address your general attitude of hopeless negativism. Consider the lilies of the goddamn field or... hell! Take a look at Delmar here as your paradigm of hope.

**************************
Movie C

I spent like three hours doing shading the upper lip. It's probably the best drawing I've ever done.

**************************
Movie D

a - You're not fooling anyone Bender. The next screw that falls out will be you.
b - Eat my shorts.
a - What was that?
b - Eat... My... Shorts!
a - You just bought yourself another Saturday.
b - Ooh I'm crushed.
a - You just bought one more.
b - Well I'm free the Saturday after that. Beyond that, I'm going to have to check my calendar.
a - Good, cause it's going to be filled. We'll keep going. You want another one? Just say the word say it. Instead of going to prison you'll come here. Are you through?
b - No.

*****************************
Movie E

- The key to faking out the parents is the clammy hands. It's a good non-specific symptom; I'm a big believer in it. A lot of people will tell you that a good phony fever is a dead lock, but, uh... you get a nervous mother, you could wind up in a doctor's office. That's worse than school. You fake a stomach cramp, and when you're bent over, moaning and wailing, you lick your palms. It's a little childish and stupid, but then, so is high school.

************************
Movie F

a - Champagne?
b - We're in the middle of a chase, Porthos.
a - You're right - something red.

I left the name on purpose, and here's another one of equal wit. For this one you need the actor and heck, even some co-stars!

a - He thinks he can challenge the mighty Porthos with a sword...
b - The mighty who?
a - Don't tell me you've never heard of me.
b - The world's biggest windbag?
a - Little pimple... meet me behind the Luxembourg at 1 o'clock and bring a long wooden box.
b - Bring your own...

*******************************
Movie G

- From now on I see a red sash, I kill the man wearing it. So run you cur. And tell the other curs the law is coming. You tell 'em I'm coming! And Hell's coming with me you hear! Hell's coming with me!

*******************************
And finally, Movie H

The truth is bro, life's about greasin' the do back, buddy, and weasin' on the buff-fest, man. High school was interesting, all right? It was kinda like a harsh ride... ahhh, ahhh, owwww, owwww! We're going on to bigger and better things, buddy!

Movie A - The Princess Bride - LOVES IT.

first line is from Fessig - the giant speaking to Wesley, who is still mostly dead!
The second is from Inigo the vengeful spaniard, plotting with the previous two characters.

and the MLT line? (loving it) is from the king's old miracle worker (aka Billy Crystal) who was booted from his position by Humperdinck.

I feel like Movie D might be the Breakfast club? but I could be very wrong. I know I'm dead on with Movie A though - I own it and have seen it a MILLIon times and love it equally much each time I see it. Great post ev.

I forgot the last line!
Prince Humperdinck talking to Tyrone (aka the six fingered man aka the one to whom Inigo will say - My name is Inigo Montoya - you killed my father, prepare to die) before he goes down into the pit of despair to torture wesley.

Can you tell I'm bored at work? And also a huge nerd?
