We Rise Again

Ahhh, the Rankin's. So many memories. I remember singing "Tell My Ma" with the antenna of my ghettoblaster as the mic, and pretending that I could speak Gaelic. Not making the elementary school choir and lamenting it because they got to sing, "We Rise Again", complete with screechy note at the end. Then there's visiting the Orangedale Museum in Cape Breton, that was sung about in "Orangedale Whistle"...

I probably won't go to the reunion concert here in Halifax, but I'd like to. And it's the thought that counts... Speaking of concerts I probably won't go to, there's the ECMA's, and the Barenaked Ladies. But one I'm still holding out hope for is Stuart MacLean and the Vinyl Cafe, coming around in March. I love that guy... We may not be big, but we're small.

Halifax is getting a lot of cultural attention these days. Something someone like me should take advantage of, but then again... I could always just go to work.

Plans are underway (at least in my own head) for the camping trip as mentionned in the previous post. Looks like South Mountain Park is the winner, though I kind of had my hopes up for the Yogi Bear place. Delightfully chessy. In an unfortunate turn of events I had to throw my tent out the other day. I had read somewhere that you're not supposed to store your tents in the tight little bag thing that they come in because it breaks down the material. Unfortunately, this is not always feasible for the apartment dweller, and the cat pee is probably more detrimental than slower breakdown.

It was full of pee and poo, and throw I did intend on trying to clean it up, I decided just to cut my loses and throw it away... I needed a bigger one anyway.

I finally got my hair did. It's now adorned with a smattering of reds, coppers, and blondes (and a slightly darker brown). I quite like it, though now I'm obsessed with fading, and I check it frequently for any dimness in colour. It took four hours to do, but it was worth it. It'll be hard to go back to the box, should I fall on hardtimes...

Sometimes there are bad days at work. But the good days are really nice, and do overshadow the bad. This weekend was really good. I was kind of missing the chance to talk to kids and just enjoy being around them. Cuz sometimes you really wish that you were somewhere else. Right now there's a girl here who's dream is to never own a house, but to be able to travel around at a moment's notice and go wherever she wants. To be in a police car chase would be her greatest thrill.

My first reaction was to tell her that it's wrong. That she needs to do high school and then go to college and study something else, and then get a job, and then save up for a house, and buy a nice TV and a nice car, and have a dog, and have a nice savings account. But it was really nice not to tell her she was wrong and that she'll always need money and won't be able to travel around on a whim. Who knows... maybe that's what she'll get to do. Unfortunately, youth in care don't get the option of being whimsical and carefree. It'll be tough for her to fit into the system and get what she needs out of it. It's a big game of Pacman. You have to eat all the little dots before some neon coloured bad guy gets you. And it's almost got her a few times...

What else... I'm not sick, and that's nice. You'd think that after working 50 hours a week for a couple of months that I'd be a bit worn down, but so far so good.

I love Facebook. Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. I love my dishes being done (which they never are), and my floors not needing to be swept. I love not eating frozen food and cooking for other people. I love my new dishes.

I was supposed to have a supervision with the Supervisors yesterday, which was re-scheduled from last week. It's been rescheduled to next week... It makes me nervous, because I haven't really heard any criticisms yet, and I'd really like some idea on how I can improve. But I'm also a little Type A and I don't like being bad/needing improvement on something. At least not enough that someone else can notice.

What do you call cheese that isn't yours?

Nacho cheese.

I've added that one to my arsenal of hilarity. We're now up to three jokes. It tends to come up a lot. Like every time someone mentions nachos. Or cheese. Or anything else.

What did the blonde do when she discovered she had two left feet.

Bought a pair of flip-flips.

There's one more, but you have to see it in person. So just think of something funny and then giggle a little. It'll have the same effect.

Well, it's about time for my snack. There aren't any good leftovers, so it'll probably be an institutional bagel with institutional cheeze whiz. Or maybe institutional frosted flakes. They only have to cook for 20 people, so you wouldn't think things would have to be so mass produced and institutionally. Ah well... there are the good days. Nacho cheese... mmmm...

Natch yo cheese.

FC I freaking miss you. I'm just as excited for the camping trip as you are. I don't care how much it's going to cost. (Well within reasonable limits of course.) I'm sorry that we voted for South Mountain Park over Yogi, but hey, who knows, maybe next year? I'm down with paying 25 bucks a night, it looks like a really nice place. And Justin said the pools are actually good sizes, unlike another pool we may have seen last year...

Eek! I can't wait!

Classic!

David doesn't think it's funny, I don't think he realizes the history.

If you've never seen Great Big Sea, I heartily encourage you to do so. They're from that neck o' the continent, Newfoundland. They're just about to hit back on the road, so look them up.

I totally went to a Great Big Sea concert... in YARMOUTH! LOL they actually came to Yarmouth and played at Th'Yarc. It was a while ago though, before they were big. Haha, come to think of it I saw the Rankin's in Yarmouth too. They came to 'Fish Aid'. (Don't ask.) Jan Arden was there too, and some other Canadian folk who I can't think of right now. Not anyone cool like Nelly Furtado or Our Lady Peace (although I did see OLP in Halifax once...)

K team, I am super excited for camping.... it sounds stellar. I have a question though and its up for a vote, but I know of another person who is interested in coming.... she has brown hair, a red gap sweater and we used to live in her house.... guess who.
She mentioned it sounded like a lot of fun, so I thought I would ask everyone before I mentioned anything else....
