Are You In?

You know the excuses: "I don't have the time!", "It's too long!", "I can't read!".

How many of us have thought at one point or another that we should attempt War and Peace? Maybe not that many... but regardless, we may think about it, but then we look at the cover and start quivering in fear. It's a long, long book. We think that there's no way to stay focused on one thing for that long and you're probably right.

Well friends, it's time to throw caution to the wind and get reading. I'm sure someone, somewhere has finished the whole thing, so we can too. Don't give Leo Tolstoy the pleasure of knowing no one will ever read his book.

I don't care if you're busy. I don't care if you have children to feed and fields to tend. We're going to get through this thing together, if for no other reason than we can say, "Hey, I've read that!", when it comes up as a jeopardy question.

Are you in?

The Challenge: To complete War and Peace by June 1st(ish), 2007.

Our Motto: One page at a time.

So pick up a copy of Leo Tolstoy's War and Peace, and get to 'er. The challenge will begin January 1st, 2007, but if you want to get a head start, that's fine by me. The first one to June 1st wins.

I've sent an invitation to some because they made me do it to start a group. But if you want to accept the challenge, then join the group. All you need is a gmail account, and if you don't have one just let me know.

Please forget that I'm setting this up at 4 in the morning. I'm like, totally serious. In fact, it's on my 30 before 30 list, which will be revealed at a later date...

Comments? Questions?

I have a 100 before 100 list...I'm old :-(

Did you ever notice that if you use the format 30 before 30, 40 before 40, 50 before 50, and so on, that you have to do way more things in a smaller period of time as you get older.

Let's do the top 10 things to do before i'm too old to do them. I like that...

FC I think it's a great idea and I really want to join the group. I know you don't want to hear it but I really am too busy! I am taking the Lewis and Tolkien course next semester plus a 3rd year Dempster course so I'll be reading my butt off until April. Thanks for the invite though. If you do another one in the summer invite me because i'd really like to do it!

Although isolated pockets of war and peace both exist in Yemen, I can't find the book anywhere!! Ruth and I want to join, but we won't be able to until February, so if you're accepting late memberships, count us in:)
