Idle Adventures

*Sigh* Nobody comments anymore... I'm going to start making things up soon, since my real life is obviously not that interesting. Geesh.

In other exciting and riveting news, I went to the library. I'm surprised there isn't a wanted sign hanging in the window considering how much stinkin' money they think I owe them... But I wasn't there to borrow this time, because there was a Giant Book Sale! Bring Your Friends! today. To get there I took a newish trail leading along the Dartmouth waterfront. I was a little leery given that the last time I took this trail it came to a sharp and pointy end that dropped off into the ocean. It's all done now and it made the walk to downtown D-Town fairly short (10 minutes), pleasant and uncomplicated.

Then I bought some books.

Given that all the books were "discards" there wasn't a whole lot that peaked my interest. I picked up a few things I'd never heard of before, because at 50 cents a book it's not that big a gamble. I would say that approximately 85% (if not more) of the books were written by women. This could mean a couple things, either women write such popular books that the library gets duplicate donations or women tend to write wishy washy books that are read once and then discarded. It's probably a combo of the two... There were a lot of someone named Catherine Cookson. I'm thinking she's the wishy washy type given her titles, "Midnight Seduction", "Meet me in the Lilies".

Then I bought some cat food, walked home, and took a nap.

Now that is one tidy little snapshot of a day in the life. If things got any more exciting around here I may have to take a breather.

Nothing else is new other than I interviewed for a position here at work and got an "indefinite" 40 hour term. I'm pleased with that, although I would love to get a permanent position... Basically what it means is I have a guaranteed 40 hours every pay period, I get paid more than I do as a casual and I (and the other part-timers) are called before casuals for any shifts that filter down from full-timers. I'm usually working more hours than I could possibly ever want, so it's all gravy. Usually a term is for a defined amount of time, but mine isn't as of yet, so who knows what that might mean!

The cats are fine, thanks for asking.

Now, name the movie and the character(s) speaking:

Movie One
One: He just did that steroid free!
Two: What's steroids?
One: Something that makes your 'pee-pee' smaller.
Two: Ohh... there must be steroids in macaroni!

*****************
Movie Two
One: What is that, Holliday? Twelve hands in a row? Ain't nobody that lucky.
Two: Why Ike, whatever do you mean? Maybe poker's just not your game. I know! Let's have a spelling contest!

*****************
Movie Three
One: [narrating] I wish I could tell you that Andy fought the good fight, and the Sisters let him be. I wish I could tell you that - but prison is no fairy-tale world. He never said who did it, but we all knew. Things went on like that for awhile - prison life consists of routine, and then more routine. Every so often, Andy would show up with fresh bruises. The Sisters kept at him - sometimes he was able to fight 'em off, sometimes not. And that's how it went for Andy - that was his routine. I do believe those first two years were the worst for him, and I also believe that if things had gone on that way, this place would have got the best of him.

*****************
Movie Four
One: A progressive convent? Sounds awful. I liked my convent in Vancouver. Out in the woods. It wasn't all modern like some of these new-fangled convents. We didn't have electricity. Bare feet, cold water. They were nuns.
Two: Sounds wonderful!
One: It was hell on earth, I loved it. This place is a Hilton.

*****************
One: I guess this is just another lost cause, Mr. Paine. All you people don't know about lost causes. Mr. Paine does. He said once they were the only causes worth fighting for. And he fought for them once, for the only reason any man ever fights for them; because of just one plain simple rule: 'Love thy neighbor.'... And you know that you fight for the lost causes harder than for any other. Yes, you even die for them.

Ev, I'm commenting! This is me commenting. I don't know those movies so I can't play, but number three sounds a lot like Shawshank Redemption?

So, did you buy any books?

And, how are the cats?

Miss you!

The only one that I knew was the first one because in my hospital boredom I just watched THE BENCHWARMERS yesterday... sigh..I love Napolean Dynamite (I wonder if people really remember his real name.. I never do.. he will forever live in my mind as Napolean Dynamite) I digress..

sounds like a fun day at the library.. that part about the cat food was riveting...

do you think its true that the police can access your library records??? If they can I think we're both in trouble. I'm probably a library outlaw in more than one province!
