Give me the worky!

I'm sure you're all chomping at the bit to hear about my first day at the new job.

So, this new job has like, waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more responsibility than the last one. Which is both good and bad. Good in that responsibility is good, as is being paid for more of it. The downside is it's kinda stressful to discover all the things you're responsible and having no idea how to do any of it.

Nova Scotia does things differently than Alabama. For instance, they don't have to translate intergovernmental memos into redneck speak. Anywho! There's different jargon involved, and it takes a moment to figure it out. The Youth Care Worker does intake, talks to social workers and family members, does interventions, plans programming, etc. etc. etc. At my other job we tended to put everything on the supervisor, because that was their job. Here they supervise. And! They think I'm going to be all set to go after two shifts. Ha! That's rich. The fortunate thing is at first I won't be on with another new person, so whomever I work with is going to have to deal with me.

One perk is how stinking easy this job seems to be, constant activity wise. In between moments of chaos there is really nothing to do but wait for the next round. As opposed to being bombarded with constant stress and being on the go for 14 hours a day. What? You mean I can just sit here and watch TV with them? Huh... ok...

Other than that, I hate first days of work. There's the awkwardness, the not knowing what you're doing, the wearing a dressy shirt and regretting it cuz it's uncomfy and everyone else is wearing hemp sweaters and crocs, and the kids thinking you should know what you're doing, and they're like, dude! and I'm like, dude! and then someone else is like, dudes! and deals with it for me. And there's the trying to look like you know what you're doing without actually doing anything, cuz if you do something you'll probably make a mistake...

I'm glad there's only one first day of work per job, because I just couldn't handle anymore.

Evy you're hilarious! It was great fun hanging out the other night, we should do it more often! AND we should plan a road trip to Shannon's house. Yes, yes we should.
